Ironically, this in turn creates a situation in which you are rewarded with your devices or apps at the end of your detox period if you are good and obey the rules. If you delete your social media and abstain from using your devices, you get to use them once the detox period is over. It just doesn’t make any sense at all.
Agreed. When we restrict ourselves to such an extent, abstaining from a particular behaviour, as soon as that period of abstention is up we just fall right back into our old habits. It’s exactly why so many diets fail — we fight hard against our cravings for a set period of time and then submit our boundaries once that time is up, returning to our junk-food-filled lives.
